About this collection

The Banning Lewis Photograph Collection contains images of Ruth Banning and the Banning Lewis Ranch. The Banning Lewis Ranch was one of the largest cattle ranches in the Pikes Peak region encompassing nearly 38,000 acres. Ruth Banning, the widow of Raymond “Pinky” Lewis, was a very well-known businesswoman in the region. She was actively involved with many community service organizations and a founder of the Girl Scouts in Colorado Springs.  She served six years on the Colorado Springs City Council, was a board member of School District 11, and was a faculty member of the Seton School of Nursing at Glockner, now Penrose Hospital. Ruth Banning died at the age of 70 in November 1962.
