About this collection

Rhoda Wilcox was born November 4, 1918, in Lincoln County, Colorado. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1952, working as a school teacher for Colorado Springs School District 11 for thirty years. She was engaged in community projects, preserving historical landmarks, collecting photographs, and researching local history, especially on individuals such as: General William Jackson Palmer, Helen Hunt Jackson, and William Bell. She served on the Historical Records Advisory Board for the State of Colorado and was featured in Who’s Who in the West. Rhoda Wilcox authored several texts including: The Man on the Iron HorseBells of ManitouColorado Slim and His Specktacklers; and co-authored Changing Colorado.

She actively participated in many community organizations and history preservation groups including the Pikes Peak Posse of the Westerners, the Landmarks Preservation Council, Garden of the Gods Council, Garden of the Gods Master Plan Review Committee, Cemetery Advisory Board, and White House Ranch. She died March 23, 2009.
