About this collection

William Edward Hook was born February 5, 1833 in England. He came to the United States in 1867 and traveled widely.  He opened photo studios in Wisconsin and Michigan before moving west. In April 1885, at the age of 52, Hook arrived in Manitou Springs and opened his studio in the Thurlow Building located just east of the Bark Hotel on Manitou Avenue. By 1890, Hook was operating out of his Colorado Springs studio on Tejon Street. For twenty years or so, Hook photographed the people and sites of the Pikes Peak region producing individual photographs, photograph albums, and tourist guides.  Hook died in 1908 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
