Chuck Asay inflicted his religious, right-wing, wacko views on people for over 30 years. He believes we live in a free country where everyone is entitled to his (Chuck's) opinion. He was born into a family where controversial views were expressed vigorously but without malice. He believes ideas rule the world, not people. "It’s the ideas we wrestle with. People are created in the image of God. We are supposed to love them."
He was raised on a farm in the San Luis Valley in Colorado and earned his degree from Adams State College in Alamosa with majors in Art and Education. He served in the U.S. Army, taught in the public schools, and cartooned for over 50 years.
He married a hometown girl, who he calls the long-suffering Marge. Together they raised two kids who have turned out to be really cool. Marge did an excellent job.
From 1968 to 2007, Chuck drew cartoons for The Taos News, The Colorado Springs Sun, and The Gazette in Colorado Springs. In his retirement he still drew four cartoons each week for the Creators Syndicate. His award-winning views have appeared in publications nation-wide generating lots of hate mail.
For Chuck, all this was good. "We need to warn the idle, encourage the timid, help the weak and be patient with everyone." (1 Thessalonians 5:14). Chuck considered this Bible verse to be his job description.
