About this collection

This small collection consists primarily of images taken by members of the 28th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron while they were assigned to Peterson Field, Colorado during World War II. The squadron was constituted on 5 February 1943. It was redesignated as 28th Photographic Squadron (Light) on 6 February 1943 and was activated on 1 May 1943. It was again redesignated as 28th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron on 11 August 1943 The squadron was stationed at Peterson Field from 1 May 1943 until 13 October 1943. Detachments of the 28th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron served throughout the Pacific Theater during World War II. Some military historians may recall the term “short arm inspection.” This collection contains a rare photograph of one such inspection as it was being conducted.
