Label on back reads : "Pleasure Resorts of Colorado . Manitou . Southward from Denver seventy-five miles via the Denver & Rio Grande Railway to Colorado Springs , and thence westward five miles by the Manitou branch of the same road , lands the pleasure seeker at the famous Springs , known collectively by the above name , and right under the shadow of Pike's Peak . The town is nestled in a narrow valley at the junction of Ruxton Creek with the Fountain qui Bouille , the former coming right down from Pike's Peak and the latter through Ute Pass . The Mineral Springs are six in number , Manitou , Navajo , Shoshone , Iron Ute , Ute Soda and Little Chief . Analysis . In one hundred thousand parts of water are contained : [text includes chemical analysis , total solid constituents , gasses and degrees Fahrenheit of all six springs]The ascent of Pike's Peak is made from this point , there always being a good supply of ponies and guides for this purpose . The distance by the trail is about twelve miles . The principal points of interest in the neighborhood are Williams ' Canon , a picturesque gorge with perpendicular walls of sandstone , in which is the remarkable "Cave of the Winds " The Garden of the Gods with its "Beautiful Gate " "Cathedral Spires " "Tower of Babel " "Balanced Rock " and other curious and majestic forms in red sandstone , two and a half miles distant ; Monument Park , nine miles north , with its white sandstone "monuments " among which are "Vulcan's Anvil " "Dutch Wedding " "Dunce's Parliament " &c . Twenty one miles over Ute Pass to the west is Manitou Park , noted for its monuments and fish-hatching establishment ; and southwest towards Colorado Springs is Cheyenne Canon with its "Seven Falls. " The hotels are the Cliff , Beebee , Manitou and Iron Spring houses , besides which are numerous cottages and boarding houses . Excellent Liveries with reasonable prices , afford ample opportunity for exploring the neighborhood . The elevation at the Cliff House is 6,124 feet above the sea .
