Image Number006-267DateSummer 1976DescriptionClose-up of sod church. Although little is known about this deteriorating Church of Christ located at Whittemore and Myers Roads, what is of interest is that it is built of sod. This church site is the only authentic sod structure in El Paso County that is still standing and has not been stuccoed over. It was probably built about 1918, and services were only held for four or five years. It is thought that the church was originally Carmelite but became Church of Christ. The building is in poor condition, having been used as a granary and infrequently repaired. One entire wall now has wood plank inserts to hold up the building.
