Image Number006-1110DateFall 1976DescriptionThe Nolon House is a Queen Anne style structure [in visibly deteriorating condition with a chain-link fence around it] located at 2 Grand Avenue. It features Manitou greenstone, wooden shingles, porches with brackets and moldings and a four-story stone tower. Built in 1890 by J. E. Newton, the owner of the Newton Lumber Company in Colorado Springs, this home was purchased by John Nolon in 1900. Nolon owned a gambling hall and saloon in the Cripple Creek and saloons in Manitou Springs, including the Buffalo Saloon at Manitou and Ruxton Avenues. Nolon expanded the home to include top floor servant’s quarters and the carriage house in back. The Nolon family occupied the home for almost 50 years. When the Nolon family sold the property, the house and carriage house were separated. Both have had several owners and have been converted into apartments.PhotographerGulliford, AndrewLocationManitou Springs (Colo.)SubjectResidencesDwellingsCollectionHistoric Sites and StructuresPublisherPikes Peak Library DistrictOriginal FormatNegativesPhysical Description35mm b&w negative
