Image Number001-1418Date1918DescriptionFormal portrait of a woman identified on back as Mrs. Sumner. Research indicates this is Abbie P. Sumner [1855-1954], wife of John R.E. Sumner who was a rancher, farmer and former treasurer of Routt County, Colorado. Abbie was a native of Massachusetts and daughter of noted American sculptor Thomas Carew. After Abbie married Mr. Sumner in Cambridge in 1890, they moved west and settled first in the Pikes Peak Region and then in northwestern Colorado.
