Image Number001-1445Dateca. 1876DescriptionAn elevated view of Tejon Street looking south, taken from the northeast corner of Tejon and Pikes Peak Avenue. A wide, unpaved, tree-lined street is populated with businesses with Cheyenne Mountain in the distance. Telegraph poles run along the east side of the street. Sidewalks or wooden walkways run in front of the buildings with ditch boxes [for tree irrigation] and pedestrian crossing ramps paralleling the street. Freight wagons are clustered in front of one business along Tejon. Businesses annotated on the west side of the street include “Basey’s Ranches” and “Boots & Shoes” on the Union Block [later the Exchange National Bank] building in the foreground which faced Pikes Peak Avenue. A block south at Huerfano [later renamed Colorado] Avenue, a building has a “Bank” sign mounted on the roof.
