Notes
The following comment by Owen Cramer of Colorado Springs was made about this photo in the “Your Viewpoint” section of the Colorado Springs Gazette edition of 20 September 2026. “The ‘A Look Back’ photo in Thursday’s paper, Stan Payne’s beautiful and poignant look at the young LeCompte sisters and the family Pontiac, as Jenny (Jane) goes off to preschool (doubtless the Ruth Washburn Cooperative) and Ellen waves a loving and slightly sad goodbye, really moved me. As was the custom in 1952, they are listed as children of 'Mr. and Mrs. Oliver LeCompte.' Janet Shaw LeCompte — whose father was Lloyd Shaw, a man of great consequence here — was a wonderful citizen and scholar, as his Gazette 2010 obit says. (https://shorturl.at/ ufRNF). She was the loving mother of these lovely children. (By the way, her grandmother, Maude McFerran Price, founded the Pioneers Museum.)”
