Mrs. Ford discusses her family history, relating stories of the Nickell family's travels to find homesteads on Colorado's eastern plains. The stories include one about Calamity Jane and one about Hole-in-the-Wall, Wyoming. Her family came to Colorado in 1915, settling north of Genoa, Lincoln County. She gives a detailed description of her family's sod house on a homestead near Genoa. She describes being a young girl on the prairie, family life, her courtship and marriage to Claude Ford, and playing music at dances. She describes the farming communities of Genoa and Bovina and talks about the 1918 flu epidemic.
