Collection NumberMSS 0175DescriptionStereographs were an early form of three-dimensional photographs and served as a major vehicle for popular education and entertainment in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Each card contained two nearly identical images, and when placed in a viewer, or stereoscope, presented the observer with a three dimensional view of the subject represented on the card. This collection contains stereographs of many important landscapes and geographical features of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West. It also includes images of some Colorado cities and towns such as Colorado Springs, Georgetown, and Leadville.
