Collection NumberMSS 0001DescriptionThe Margaretta M. Boas collection of photographs includes images of the people, events, and communities ranging from farms and ranch life to street scenes in larger communities. When taken as a whole, these photographs capture the essence of the Pikes Peak region and the Front Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Margaretta Boas was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, August 16, 1876 and came to Colorado Springs in 1882. In 1904, after receiving her AB from Wellesley College and completing a year of postgraduate work at Stanford, she returned to Colorado Springs. She worked as an assistant to Susan Dunbar who was in charge of the Social Union, the predecessor of the Colorado Springs Public Library. Margaretta Boas continued her work with the Pikes Peak Library District for nearly fifty years. She died December 14, 1962 in Colorado Springs.
This collection was started in 1950 by Margaret Reid, the PPLD librarian who succeeded Margaretta Boas, and is intended to honor her long, dedicated service to the people of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region.
