Collection NumberMSS 0266DescriptionHelen and James McCaffery took photographs of the urban renewal that was taking place in Colorado Springs in the 1950s through the 1970s. Their amateur color slides vividly captured the destruction and rebuilding that was going on during that time period. Helen and James photographed buildings such as the Antlers Hotel, the Burns Theater, and Glockner Hospital prior to demolition and after. James passed away in 1983. In 2009, Helen worked with Special Collections volunteer Nita Peters to identify many of the images and match up pre-demolition images with their post-demolition counterparts.
