Leaving a small book business in New York in 1885 to recover from tuberculosis, William W. Hassell (1860-1922) came by train to Colorado Springs, then went west up Ute Pass to the small settlement of Florissant. After about a year there, he came to Colorado Springs where he became a pioneer businessman, initially starting a small fence manufacturing business. He eventually built a foundry that developed into the Hassell Iron Works Company, the largest and most important of its kind in the Pikes Peak region.PhotographerunknownLocationColorado Springs (Colo.)SubjectHassell Iron WorksIron-worksNotes Thanks to J Richards of Colorado Springs for background research on this image.CollectionIron Fences Photograph CollectionPublisherPikes Peak Library DistrictOriginal FormatTransparenciesPhysical Descriptionb&w slideRightshttp://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/ This material may be protected under U.
