Image Number042-117Dateca. 1938DescriptionA woman behind a counter speaks with a girl in pigtails at the skate rental desk of the Broadmoor Ice Arena [first Broadmoor World Arena]. Signs on rustic log-cabin debarked wall read "Make arrangements here for instruction", "Ask about our skate service per month" and "Skates sharpened and repaired". Posters for "Aero Milk Chocolate bars - 5 cents" are also on wall. Folding wooden theater seats line both sides of the foreground. Research indicates that the first Broadmoor World Arena was a skating rink and hockey arena located at the Broadmoor Resort. Originally an outdoor equestrian center and riding academy, a building was constructed over the area and converted into an ice arena which opened in January 1938.PhotographerPhoto Craft ShopLocationColorado Springs (Colo.)SubjectBroadmoor World Arena (Colorado Springs, Colo.)Skating rinksNotes Thanks to J Richards of Colorado Springs for background research on this image.
