Also included are photographs of Spencer Penrose with friends and associates. Milton Strong, among the most well-known civil engineers of the Pikes Peak region, was born April 25, 1893 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1914, he worked on the construction of the Mt. Manitou Incline Railway, and by 1917 he was deeply involved in the construction of the Broadmoor Hotel. Other construction projects completed under his direction include the Penrose Stadium, the Broadmoor Ice Palace, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Broadmoor-Cheyenne Mountain Cog Road, the Cheyenne Mountain tollgate and summit lodge, and the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun. Strong died August 25, 1960 in Colorado Springs.
