Mr. Sakala talks about his and other Slovak families coming to the United States in the late 19th century, working in the steel smelters of Pueblo, Colorado, then homesteading land in the Ramah-Calhan area of Elbert and El Paso counties. He talks about farm life in the area during his youth and the social customs of the rural Slovak families. He discusses how social life there had changed by the 1970s.
