Mr. Burghart was a rancher, ranch real estate broker, member and president of the PIkes Peak Cattlemen's Association and the Colorado Cattlemen's Association, vice president of the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the local, state and national Association of Real Estate Boards. Burghart was born in 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri and died in 1983 in Colorado Springs. His maternal grandfather, Clifford N. Ingl, started the Ingl Land and Cattle Company, a ranch of about 15,000 acres on Rock Creek, south of Colorado Springs around 1931. Burghart tells about the history of his family's cattle business there and how the land was condemned by the US government in the 1940s and became Camp Carson, later Fort Carson. He discusses eminent domain and the high-handed practices of the government in its enforcement. He describes the changes in ranching and the cattle industry over the years, from his grandfather's time until his time, and difficulties of cattle ranching in the arid climate of the West.
